BSN Round 9 (Regular Season): Quebradillas edge Santurce by one point

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 9 in the BSN took place in Santurce. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 4th placed Cangrejeros (5-7) to sixth ranked Piratas (1-12) 96-95 on Sunday evening. Quebradillas dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Cangrejeros's 36 and made 25-of-33 free shots (75.8 percent) during the game. Quebradillas looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 27 personal fouls committed by Santurce helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American center Thomas Robinson (203-1991, college: Kansas) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 14 rebounds. DR Congolese guard Emmanuel Mudiay (196-1996) chipped in 30 points. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international point guard Angel Rodriguez (180-1992, college: Miami, FL) who recorded 19 points and 8 assists. Cangrejeros' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. It was the only win of guest team this round and in all other games host teams recorded victories. Piratas maintains sixth place with 1-12 record. Santurce at the other side keeps the fourth position with seven games lost. They share it with Manati. Quebradillas are looking forward to face league's second-placed Carolina at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Santurce will play against Guaynabo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Australian forward Jack McVeigh (203-1996, college: Nebraska) answered with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists for Arecibo. Ponce maintains fifth place with 6-8 record. Arecibo at the other side keeps the second position with four games lost. Ponce will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Arecibo will play at home against Caguas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Aguada will play against the league's leader San German and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games of round 9 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Santurce was crushed by Bayamon in a road game 109-87. Manati smashed Guaynabo at home 104-83. Mayaguez lost to San German on the opponent's court 102-109. Carolina outscored Arecibo in a home game 111-91.
The best stats of 9th round was 38 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds by Hunter Tyson of Carolina.



Ponce - Arecibo 116-108

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Capitanes (8-4) against fifth ranked Leones (6-8) on Friday night. Visiting Capitanes were defeated by Leones in a tough game in Ponce 108-116. They made 29-of-37 charity shots (78.4 percent) during the game, while Arecibo only scored ten points from the stripe. Ponce players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. Arecibo was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for the former international power forward Jordan Murphy (200-1997, college: Minnesota) who led his team to a victory with 31 points and 6 rebounds. American guard Jalen Crutcher (187-1999, college: Dayton) contributed with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 assists for the winners. Leones' coach Carlos Rivera allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. There was no surprise in Bayamon where 4th placed Cangrejeros (5-7) were crushed by first ranked Vaqueros (9-5) 109-87 on Friday. Bayamon outrebounded Santurce 42-31 including 28 on the defensive glass. Bayamon looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Bayamon made 7 blocks. American forward Jae Crowder (198-1990, college: Marquette) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Australian forward Xavier Cooks (203-1995, college: Winthrop) chipped in 23 points and 6 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). The best for the losing side was the former international point guard Jordan Howard (180-1996, college: Cent Arkansas) with 17 points and 5 assists and the former international power forward Devon Collier (203-1991, college: Oregon St.) scored 10 points and 5 rebounds. Five Bayamon and four Santurce players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains first place with 9-5 record. Loser Cangrejeros keeps the fourth position with seven games lost. They share it with Manati. Bayamon will meet Caguas (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. The best for the losing side was international center Ismael Romero (205-1991) with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international Jaysean Paige (188-1994, college: WVU) scored 18 points and 5 assists. Four Manati and five Guaynabo players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Manati moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Santurce. Loser Mets dropped to the sixth position with eight games lost. Manati will meet at home Mayaguez (#4) in the next round. Rather expected game in San German where 4th placed Indios (6-6) were defeated by first ranked Atleticos (10-3) 109-102 on Saturday. San German made 26-of-29 free shots (89.7 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Guard Andre Curbelo (183-2001, college: Southern Miss) stepped up and scored 25 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners and American power forward Nick Perkins (203-1996, college: Buffalo) chipped in 32 points and 6 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). The best for the losing side was Australian guard Nathan Sobey (190-1990, college: Wyoming) with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 12 assists and New Zealand center Tyrell Harrison (214-1999) produced a double-double by scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds. Five San German and four Mayaguez players scored in double figures. Indios' coach tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game.
